Below is a listing of all the licenses one may be required to have to operate or do
business in the City of Scottsdale.
Adult Service Provider - Person who provides an adult service.
After-Hours Establishments - Establishments staying open between the hours of 1 am to 6 am.
Alarm Company - Companies installing and/or monitoring residential or business alarms.
Alarm User - Home and business owners with alarms systems.
Auction House - Establishments where property is received from other persons or businesses, when such property is to be sold to third parties, by auction, either publicly or privately, whether for cash, property or other consideration.
Auctioneer - A person who runs a public sale where property is sold to the highest bidder.
Business / Occupational / Professional (BOP) - Service oriented business located in Scottsdale.
Business Termination - An additional license is required for those firms which are going out of business.
Charitable Solicitations (Non-Profit) - Any qualified, federally designated organization for which the purpose is to solicit and receive donations by various means.
Commercial Refuse or Solid Waste Collection - Companies or individuals who privately contract to collect refuse or solid waste.
Escort Bureau / Introductory Service License - The licensing of any person or company which offers to furnish or refer escorts to patrons or whose principal purpose is to aid individuals to become socially acquainted.
Escort Permit - The licensing of a person hired to accompany another person to social functions or any place of amusement whether public or private in nature.
Home Occupation Exemption - A service business that is located in a residential dwelling.
Liquor License - For any establishment selling spirituous beverages.
Liquor License (Special Event) - Temporary license for a non-profit organization to provide spirituous beverages.
Magic Arts Establishment - Palmistry, phrenology, astrology, fortune telling, mind reading, clairvoyancy, tarot card reading or other similar calling.
Massage Facility - The licensing of a business or establishment in which any massage techniques are administered, practiced, or used.
Massage Therapist - Any person providing and administering massage techniques upon the external parts of the body.
Effective 7/1/2004, the City of Scottsdale will no longer process Massage New or Renewal Applications. Massage Therapists must apply with the State of AZ prior to expiration of their current city license. Effective 1/1/2005, a massage therapist must be licensed with the State of AZ in order to practice massage therapy. Contact the state for grandfathering information. Promoter - A person who organizes and assumes the responsibilities of an exhibition including contracting with vendors using the site, and collecting admission receipts, if any.
Recycling - Companies or individuals who privately contract to collect recycling only.
Second Hand Pawn Precious Metals - Buying, selling, trading, exchanging, or accepting for sale on consignment, or otherwise dealing in secondhand goods, wares, merchandise or articles but not limited to Antiques, Precious Metals, or any person who lends money at interest on personal property left for security.
Sexually Oriented Business - Manager - Managers working for Sexually Oriented Businesses.
Sexually Oriented Business - An Adult Service business or an Adult Video Facilty.
Solicitor (For Profit) - Persons who go uninvited from business to business or house to house selling goods and/or services.
Teen Dance Center License - An establishment that furnishes music for the purpose of social dancing for persons fifteen through twenty years of age.
Teletrack Operator - Persons that hold an Arizona Racing Commission permit and accept bets or wages on results of pari-mutual horse racing.
Teletrack Wagering Establishment - Establishments at which a teletrack operator accepts bets or wages on results of horse racing.
Temporary Sales Tax License - The licensing of the collection of tax from the final consumer for business operating for 30 days or less.
Transaction Privilege (Sales) Tax - The licensing for the collection of tax from the final consumer. Gross receipts generated from the following types of business are subject to the City of Scottsdale privilege tax. Advertising; Amusements, Exhibitions & Similar Activities; Construction Contracting; Job Printing; Mining, Timbering & Extraction; Publishing & Periodical Distribution; Renting, Leasing, or Licensing for Use of Real Property; Renting, Leasing, or Licensing for Use of Tangible Personal Property; Restaurants & Bars; Retail Sales; Telecommunication Service; Transient Lodging; Transporting For Hire; Use Tax; and Utility Services.
Transaction Privilege (Sales) Tax- Commercial - The licensing of the collection of tax from the final consumer. Renting Commercial dwelling is considered a taxable activity
Transaction Privilege (Sales) Tax- Residential - The licensing of the collection of tax from the final consumer. Renting Residential dwelling is considered a taxable activity
Transaction Privilege Use Tax - Use Tax is a tax on items stored or used in the City which have been purchased or rented without privilege or sales tax equal to the Scottsdale use tax rate.
Valet Parking - A valet parking license is required when someone wishes to operate a valet parking business within the City of Scottsdale.
